Sharmila is Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at New American Dimensions where she is focused on overall growth, leading the client service and business development areas.
Sharmila offers more than twenty years of expertise in marketing, sales, business development, and management consulting. She has extensive experience in international and multicultural marketing and has successfully worked with clients to develop strategies to target Hispanic, Asian American, and African American consumers as well other niche segments. Her background spans several industries such as food, packaging, medical, pharmaceutical, automotive, high-tech, telecom, retail and financial services.
Previously, she was Vice President, Business Development at Phoenix Multicultural (formerly Cultural Access Group). There, in addition to sales and marketing, Sharmila was instrumental in the design and development of the Asian American Market Report, a comprehensive resource for Marketing to Asian Americans.
Prior to that, Sharmila was Principal of The Mango Group, a marketing strategy firm she founded in 1997. There she focused on marketing and strategy consulting projects for a wide range of clients. Earlier in her career, Sharmila worked for Sonoco Products Company, a global packaging firm, where she managed the customer satisfaction survey process and other market research projects for the company on a worldwide basis. She began her career in sales at IBM.
She is a frequent speaker at multicultural and industry conferences around the country. In addition, she has been quoted in several trade journals and newspapers for her expertise in ethnic marketing.
Sharmila holds an MBA in Marketing and Strategic Planning from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Computer Science/Mathematics from the University of Rochester. She is on the Board of the Asian American Advertising Federation and is a member of the Nielsen Asian Pacific American Advisory Council. She was born in New Delhi, India and lives with her husband and four children in the Chicago suburbs.
