Among all ethnic groups, U.S. Hispanics represent the largest ethnic segment in the country and rank as the fastest growing segment as well. Currently, Hispanics represent about 15 percent of the U.S. population at 50 million. Given current growth rates, one of out of every four persons in the U.S. will be of Hispanic origin by 2050.
Immigration has fueled most of the growth in the market, but the native-born second generation will increasingly stimulate a greater proportion of the future growth in the U.S.
Close to two-thirds of all U.S. Hispanics hail from Mexico. The remainder trace their linage to the Caribbean, Central America and South America with each group adding its own customs, habits and behaviors to the mix.
Hispanics are also very young. Currently, 25% of the country’s children under age 5 are Hispanic.
